Will I be able to find new homes around $200k, one story single family homes NE of Durham along the I85 corridor? Where do you suggest and what major hospital would that be near? Thanks for your input.

Major hospital -- Duke. I'm not a Realtor so no idea about the house. Any reason you want to be NE of Durham? This will put you in Granville County.

Only because of being near I85. Have family up near DC so it would be a straight shot to I95.

It really doesn't have to be exactly in NE Durham. Any suggestions?

It depends on how far NE you go. There was one available in Stem. I drew the line fairly close to the Interstate. There may be some more if a wider net is cast.

Am just getting ideas. We are thinking about moving from North Charleston SC to the Durham area within the next two years. We would like to get closer to the VA border for a shorter ride to the DC metro area where our children are. We would like a great hospital nearby and hopefully a single family one story home around $200k. We would consider a condo if it has an elevator in it.

It doesn't really make that much difference where you live in Durham. It's about 4 hrs on a good day to DC. Can be way longer depending on DC traffic. It's about the same from Raleigh or Chapel Hill, too. From Raleigh you take I-95. From Chapel Hill it's about 15 min longer than from Durham.

$200k should be doable in Durham, but it's not a big budget. You might also like Wake Forest. Should be the same or shorter trip to NOVA and still pretty close to good hospitals.

do you have an active need for hospital care? If yes, how far away can you be?

Are you retired, and so proximity to a job and whatever the school system quality is are generally unimportant?
