Budget for home around $425000. 2 pre school age children. Job in New Hill would like to keep morning commute to around 45 minutes. Looking for a development with younger couples and some amenities like a pool. Maybe around 1/2 acre of property. Any ideas on where my son can start looking?

You list "schools important" in your title..in what way are they important, as in, what are you looking for in them. Aside from that, schools shouldn't even be a consideration if you have pre-schoolers around here because what a house has for an assigned school can change frequently around here because the school system adds around 3,000 kids a year and will have to open around 30 new schools by 2020. This leads to constant shuffling of students and in some neighborhoods, kids going to different schools than their neighbors.

Where are you working in New Hill......where is there to work in New Hill? New Hill is basically a well-off rural enclave/extension of Apex. Why commute 45 minutes when properties like you are describing are a dime a dozen around New Hill/SW Wake County.

A large utility is located in the area or so I am told. 45 minutes or under for the commute not 45 minutes at least.

In what way? Let's put it this way. Is it safe to assume that if you live in Cary the schools would be better than one in Wendell?

OK so assuming you are working at Sharon Harris; you could easily find what you are looking for in Fuquay or Eastern Chatham County and be very close by.

Are the schools in Cary considered "better" than the schools in Wendell? Sure. Does that mean your kids will be babbling idiots if they go to East Wake High School instead of prodigies that every ivy-league college chases after if they go to Green Hope or Panther Creek? No. I will so that I don't know why you'd mention Wendell when it is just about as far away from where you would be working as you could be in Wake County (extreme SW corner of the county vs extreme NE corner of the county).

Everyone and their mom stresses about "schools being top priority". Fuquay or Chatham don't have "the best" schools; but if you are a family that puts an emphasis on education I'm sure your children will do well at either. And honestly; if your children are high-performing in a "so-so" school; they stand a better chance of getting into a higher quality university down the road than those surrounded by peers in "pressure cooker" schools in Cary or Chapel Hill.

The only thing you can be sure of is that families in Cary have twice the median income compared to families in Wendell. School achievement scores tend to correlate with family income. School achievement scores do not equal school quality.

All the schools are run by Wake County, not by towns.

Dude, go with Cary, Apex or Holly Springs. It's not too hard. No need to go out to Wake Forest or Wendell. Chatham County schools are fine, but Cary, Apex and Holly Springs will be closer and have the subdivisions with all the bells and whistles and good schools, too.

That's a sensible place to start I just wonder what 425K buys around there. From all the stuff I have been reading Wake has better schools on balance. Thanks.
