Hi everyone! Thanks to all your help on my last inquiry, I'm hoping I can ask some more.

Our move to the area is finally official and my husband has to be down there by the end of Sept (very short notice). Here is the idea:

Hubby will be moving down next month but since our son is entering 5th grade and is autistic, we are going to keep him in his elementary school to finish out the school year. This will give us time to finish fixing up and sell our house. We will join hubby in June at the apartment and then begin to house hunt seriously. I'm planning on coming to the area every other weekend or once a month at least to look at areas and see where we fit in but Hillsborough sounds like its the best fit for us because his job will be in downtown Durham by the courthouses.

I've tried searching for rentals in Hillsborough and I've only found two, Heritage Apartments and Patriots Point (Ashford Lakes has horrible reviews online so I skipped that one). Is there another place to look online for apartments or rental homes? I've looked at realtor, apartments.com and zillow. I'm not sure I trust craigslist but maybe there is a local paper that would list them?

We are thinking a 2 bedroom at $1000 max (we still have a mortgage to pay).

Any ideas? Thank you so very much!

Look in Durham, not Hillsborough, if you want options for apartments. Also, if he is working in downtown Durham, it would make sense to be in Durham. And, Durham is by far and away the best city in the Triangle (this is fact, not opinion).

Hillsborough is a small town and just doesn't have that many apartment complexes. You might be able to rent a small house for that price, though. Craigslist may be your best bet. I know my neighbor in Chapel Hill has used Craigslist to rent out her basement apartment.

Thank you both. I've seen so many listings in Durham that I'm overwhelmed now. Maybe I'll try searching by schools since he might be starting 6th grade while were in the apt.

Would you be interested in renting a house vs. apartment? I know of one very close to Stanford MS and Orange HS that is available. I know the person renting it. It is listed at $1200 per month.
