Was looking around the Raleigh area for a short period of time for potential relocation for a family of 4....
Had high potential for Apex but didn't really fall in love. Not sure why but just didn't get the "IT" factor. We visited the downtown and it was nice and quaint. The rest just seemed okay.
Cary - We found a few neighborhoods we really liked. Overall I could see us living here. Wasn't there long enough to get a feel for the area as a whole.
Wake Forest - I liked the historic downtown area but the rest was too spread out. We came across a few buce neighborhoods but overall was a bit disappointed.
Chapel Hill - Didn't have enough time to visit
We stayed in a hotel in North Raleigh and really liked the area. Probably a bit to pricey though.
Will be back to visit again. The northern part of Raleigh was really nice. Didn't have enough time to explore it deeper.
What specifically are you looking for? Where will you be working? Kids, no kids? If you can provide some details you'll likely be inundated with information.
Kind of narrowed it down to Cary, Chapel Hill, and N. Raleigh. Didn't get enough time to look at Chapel Hill or N. Raleigh. Kind of ruled out Apex, and Wake Forest. We are looking for newer construction around 3,000 sq ft. in the mid to high 400's. I do like the landscaping of some of the older neighborhoods but do not want to have to renovate. The down side is that the newer homes tend to have smaller yards and the homes are closer together. We would need good schools, close proximity to stores, shopping, etc. would be nice and a decent sized yard for our dogs.
Better yet, that same price for 3000 s.f. of new construction in Chapel Hill? Me thinks N. Raleigh is going to be the winner here. The OP would be advised to consider recently constructed re-sales to broaden the choices in the stated price range.
I'm not sure you will find much new construction in North Raleigh with 3000 sf under $400K. Maybe if you move closer to Capital, but depending on where you work that may not be ideal.
We visited atleast six times and did extensive research before we settled on an area, schools and such. Wake County and the surrounding areas are very extensive and diverse in terms of towns, subdivisions and neighborhoods. It is getting harder and harder to find what your looking for in the price point you want , but like a previous poster stated that it is doable. We lucked out and found a place outside of the town limits with just about everything we wanted. Yeah I paid more but it will be worth it in the long run hopefully. I just have to get used to driving everywhere. I'm a city guy and I use to be able to walk to just about everything.
