My answer to "What do you REALLY think of the northern influx?"

I got a husband and two kids out of it (as well as several friends). Can't complain too much.

Except in my car. Or when I hear complaints (again) about how kindergartens should be half-day, (again) why aren't there nurses full time in each school, (again) why would you want year-round, and (again) why don't kids just go to their neighborhood schools.

Yes...everybody's got an accent. How many accents are there just amongst us native North Carolinians? 5 or 6?

Yup. We do all have one.

And I think most people's "pizza" is indeed fairly similar. As it should be.

It's typically considered "no accent" but yes, some people (myself included) have Northern Cities Vowel Shift. My A sound like in cat ends up as "caayyyt" sometimes.

Yeah... it's really the "everyone can understand this accent" variety of "accent."

I call it the national newscaster accent.

Some say "pie" instead. Not sure what accent that is, but I know I heard it somewhere up there.

"Pizza Pie" was the term used here years ago. The southern term I guess.
