Hi Mary,

Cary is a wonderful place to raise a family. We have some of the best schools around not to mention the Universities. It is also very inexpensive to go to in state schools for residents. You know we have also some of the best medical facilities around. Duke is here as are many many hospitals in the area. As far as Colleges. There is Chapel Hill, NC State, Duke and many more in surrounding areas. I relocated here from Conn to raise my family and love it. I will never leave. I feel I have found the perfect place for my family. My daughter went to UNCW in Wilmington which is just 2 hours from here straight on 40. Easy trip to the beach. Then my son went right here in Raleigh at NC State. If your into college sports this is the place to be. If I can help you in anyway just let me know. I have private messaged you my website to check out for local info that may be of some help to you. Good Luck in your decisions.

Regards,

Debbie

I lived in Raleigh for a couple of years. The humidity versus the heat will probably be hardest on you...100% humidity with a 70 degree dew point in the summer. It's somewhat "thick" to breath.

It does get very humid here at times, but everywhere you go has central air which makes it so much more bearable. It would be a little cooler towards the mountains of NC. You will get some snow there. If you choose to visit Raleigh though let me know and I could help you with that.

Regards,

Debbie

mertweed is on a distinguished road
I'm also hoping to move to NC from FL somewhere in this area. I'm used to the humidity and absolutely hate it. I'm originally from northern NJ and miss it but don't want that much snow. Is the humidity as bad as it is in FL?

Depends on which part of the state. No uncomfortable summertime temps or humidity in the Asheville-Hendersonville area. Average highs around 83 in July and 82 in August. About 2,200 feet above sea level. Last season was 0.4".

Higher elevations are cooler with more snow. The highest elevation in NC is 6,684 feet.

I've only visited FL, so I can't make a direct comparison, but....

in coastal NC, in the summertime, it's very, very humid with a high dewpoint. At it's worst here, you can walk outside even in the very early a.m. (7 for example) & distinctly feel it, breath it, and be sweating immediately, etc. Heck sometimes you can see it. I live in a rural area & I can feel it just rising up off of the grass, burning the dew off. We truly have the lazy, hazy dog days of summer here. The late, late day is about the only relief, and then the mosquitos & yellow flies are out, unless there is a breeze.

Don't get me wrong, I'd never live anywhere else, as this is my home, our family's home, for generations. And this is a way of life, we've always known. But, I cannot deny it's flat out miserable at times, because of the humidity.

I'd suggest west of Raleigh, at the very least, to find humidity less of a factor.
