Anyway, Lala, you ain't in New Yawk anymo'. You don't have to worry about gettin your ride jacked at least in 98% of this area. My wife (who is black) said she uses Taji Natural Hair Styling and loves it. I don't know if it's exactly what you are looking for but definitely is an upscale black salon.
Given how hard it appears to be to Google up a good list, I think the OP's concerns aren't so unusual. Know what I mean?

If I was looking for that kind of service I'd make the trip to Charlotte to go here.. http://www.thedamnsalon.com/

I used to go to Dudleys beauty school when I lived in Gboro and some other little hole in the wall places. I know the OP' s plight. If you've never been to a typical Black salon you might think the comedic skits on TV are exaggerated. They are not. The main reason I stopped going was that I didn't have all day to block out just for a hair appointment. We're not talking a few minutes late or running behind. We're talking hours........

Have you checked out any of the individual stylist on Groupon etc... Sometimes they just have a small studio they work out of but it cuts down on the drama and price at the same time.

RedZin, I agree the online presence of upscale AA salons in this area is quite disappointing. Not sure if it's that their customer base don't usually look online for salons or if it's only that way because their presence is so miniscule. Kind of a chicken/egg first argument. It's very possible this is just a regional issue and us Carolinians are the ones behind.

You get the picture....

Thanks!
Garnish Salon in Raleigh; totally safe neighborhood, and I can't you just HOW professional they are! I recently went in for a hair cut, and couldn't be more pleased. I am very particular about professionalism, and can't stand anything less. I had naturally curly hair for 8 1/2 years up until about three weeks ago, when I finally relaxed it. Garnish specializes in weave and extensions; in fact they have an extensions bar. Candice, (the owner) cut my hair, and she is super fabulous, upbeat, and all around pleasant to work with, but every stylist is awesome, so you can't lose. There are a couple of white stylists, as well as stylists of color, but they all know how to do every texture of hair!
