Oh God...

What if you aren't at home? What do kids in school do??

I like my general practice of just staying in bed when the ground starts shaking much better!

Seriously - how often does this happen in NC compared to states such as those in Tornado Alley?

If you are away from home, get inside a building. If shelter is not available or there is no time to get indoors, lie in a ditch or low-lying area or crouch near a strong building. Use your arms to protect head and neck. If in a car, get out of the car immediately and take shelter in a nearby building. If there is no time to get indoors, get out of the car and lie in a ditch or low-lying area away from the vehicle.

The schools will be fine. They have severe weather plans already in place and are in constant contact with the National Weather Service Alert System. They will more likely know of an emergency situation before the general public.

Nothing special about NC chances of being hit by a tornado.

They have mandatory Tornado drills in all schools in Wake County. THe kids get into a fetal position either in a hallway or inner-most room of the building.

Wow, who would have thought that NC gets as many Tornados than parts of Kansas and Nebraska!
