I met a home eq teacher who works at this school, and she was very unhappy with Leesville Middle going year round. Can anyone confirm this? And I was so happy we moved to the "area" for Traditional schools.

On the wake county schools website it says that for 2008-09 it is a traditional calendar and there are no reassignments for the school. Leesville road elementary is year round, but not the middle.

I very recently heard from someone with a bit of an inside scoop that changes are coming in the near future for the Leesville schools. No more detail was available, but it was advice offered when someone was looking for a school zone that was more stable and less likely to be reassigned.

We were at the dentist office yesterday, when the teacher came in, and was very upset over the news. I did say to her I made sure to check the website and saw the schedule already in place for the 08-09 school year and it does say it is on a Traditional calendar.

She said it was, and they are going year round and she has to work the entire year without her summer break. She also said the school was going to hire permanet substitutes to take over so the teachers can get a break or vacation.

I really Don't Know.. That's why I'm putting it out there for confirmation??

I have no idea how year round works.
I know that there are 4 tracks, the teacher I met yesterday said 3 tracks were good and 1 track nobody wants. She also said that she does forget the students names and every track is doing something different and leaves off at different places.

I thought we were safe..What is the process of applying for a traditional school seat? And is there a certain time you would have to do this?

I think it hasn't been confirmed by the school yet (or at oeast the public hasn't been notified)

This is from the N&O: newsobserver.com | Leesville Road Middle could go year-round (http://www.newsobserver.com/news/education/wake/reassignment/story/882987.html - broken link)

Default Leesville Middle

My daughter is a 5th grader in Leesville Elementary and we were told as parents who want their children to go to Leesville Middle to send an email to the school board as well as the assistant superintendant saying we would like LM to go year round so it can accomodate all students.

If the school does not go year round many students who have spent all of their school years at Leesville E. will be reassigned. For those of us use to year round that is an acceptable option provided the school board votes to make LM year round. Rumor is the school board was suppose to vote this past Monday - Nov. 3.

They were talking about this on WRAL last night. There was someone (I think a school administrator???) saying that if LMS went to year round 1/2 the teachers have already said they'd quit. Seems a little excessive to me but there may be some truth to it.
