Hi,
What would you suggest as far a good internet provider (for a residential service): good prices, good service, etc.
Thank you
P.S: I am not interested in U-Verse (with At&t. It cost 100$ to buy the modem )
If by best, you mean most reliable and fastest, that would be Time Warner Cable. The only alternative using that criteria would be U-Verse, if it's available in your area.
If you are expecting good customer service or low prices from TWC, I'm sorry to say you will be disappointed.
But with that limited U-Verse exception, I'm VERY sorry to say that TWC has a lock on reliable and fast internet.
One additional positive thing about TWC: No contract. And if you want to, you can lease the modem from them (but over the long run, it doesn't pay).

Make sure you get the introductory rate from TWC. Should be around $35 for internet. Never agree to pay the full price, which is something around $55.00 for 15Mbps. They always have specials available.
I've had internet through TWC for about a year and a half and they just bumped my bill from $34 to $42 Looks like i do get Uverse in my area... worth it?

certainly worth a phone call to see what they would charge, then see if you can get TWC to match it. Be sure that you are including all the add ons, like the modem, etc. And consider if you really want a contract.
If you are bundling with TWC, that may change things up a bit, too.
I'm a longtime TWC customer and while I don't much care for the television services I'm a fan of their Internet offerings. Considering that there's four of us hammering away each night on our bandwidth and I barely ever notice a degradation in performance I'd say it's solid.
I have used the cheapie 768k internet from TWC, back then it was $15 promotional then $20. That has since been raised I think and now we're at $40 for whatever that tiered plan is (normal "high speed" now).
If you are leaving for a few days call and cancel. They have called me back the day afterward and offered a much better deal. The threats don't really work anymore in my experience. You actually have to cut the cord...
I was reading folks in Europe have 100-200 mb/s service. The biggest problem with our TWC internet seems to be upload speed.
I have been using TWC for Internet and TV, however I am switching Internet to U-Verse. During heavy usage times, I have trouble with internet pauses that trashes phone calls and causes streaming to buffer. On tests, bandwidth varies from 30 mbps down to 1 mbps with pauses. I think some heavy users ahead of me on this cable crop and I am at the end. I will keep cable for TV as I have 5 TVs scattered around the house and just use basic service. My TV watching is mostly for news.

The kinds of problems you are experiencing with TWC sound more like modem or wifi router problems. When is the last time you rebooted both of them? How old are they?
