I went to the Brier Creek Walmart today and noticed the self checkout stations. But I don't remember seeing any the last time I went to the Walmart on New Hope Church Road. Are they doing this in all the stores, and if so, how soon?

My guess is that they only the newer stores have them or the ones that are in better neighborhoods with less chance of theft. The store in Chatham Cty has self-checkout but the one in Durham does not.

I haven't been in the Brier Creek store for maybe 6 months. I'd swear there were no self-checkout lanes the last time I was there. Maybe I just didn't notice them then, but I sure did today.

They put in the self check out lines a couple of months ago......thankfully, given the constant long lines and dearth of open registers/checkers.c

Brier Creek store is one of the many that have 16+ registers and NEVER open more than 2 or 3, at ANY time. Ever. I'll never understand this.

You'd think they could save money buying fewer registers at $$$$$ each if they're never going to use the darn things.

A stocker at the Morrisville Walmart on 54 told me this particular location was on the list to get self-checkouts.

Hey Jackie. Hope your enjoying the new place.

I was noticing that just last night. I had to go into the one on New Bern Ave and the lines were so long. I ended up walking down to the garden Center to check out. There were no self checkouts. The one on Fayetteville st/401 does have them.

Self-checkouts are fantastic! I imagine soon almost every retail store will use self-checkouts with the national push for $15 minimum wage. They only require 1 employee to monitor up to 6 self-checkouts. Self-checkouts also don't have to be paid a wage or benefits!

But the self checkouts will stay busy because it's all about convenience.

I've read that eventually every merchandise label at Wal-Mart and some other large chain stores, will have theft protection built into it as well reordering information etc..Once amid If that actually happens, there will be more.self checkouts. I'd also think if the whole cart scanning technology ever took hold the switch would be a no brainer.
