I have being trying to find out myself. That land it actually city of Raleigh, not Wake forest. People don't know this but all that on that side of the street up to behind the new Carolina Ale House is actually Raleigh, not Wake Forest. So if you are in the north bound lane, you are in Wake Forest, and if you are in the south bound lane, you are in Raleigh. They have grown on top of each other.

Here is the link that shows that Raleigh annexed the land back in 2001.

I tried to find something on the City of Raleigh's web site. I found a few things that are going up in that area. A new school, apartments and condos. I can't find anything yet that tells us what this is. I keep looking though.

I can't find anything. I'll call the planning dept on Monday and will ask them myself. I can't stand driving by there and not knowing any more.

Yes, this is a Raleigh address. The New Falls of The Neuse site is Raleigh, and on the other side of Capital it is 1-A - South Main Street..

Rex Healthcare owns this land, and they are building a medical facility on that site (not a hospital).

I think they are going to offer, among other things, cancer treatment services.

It is slated to open in about 12 months.

Default Build it and they will come...

Wake Forest appears set to become a mini medical Mecca (pardon the alliteration). No wonder so many retiring Baby Boomers from California, Northern Virginia and the DC Metro area are planning to move here.

Rex is trying to get permission to build a hospital at the corner of Hwy 96 and Capital Blvd.. just inside the Franklin County Line. There is a big stink b/c the current (and very old) hospital is up the road some.. I think in Louisburg or Franklinton.. and folks are suspicious b/c Rex wants the new hospital closer to more affluent Wake Forest, Wakefield, N. Wake County, etc.

Rex also is building a big facility in Knightdale, near the corner of US 64 and I540.

Personally, I hope it happens. I'd love to see a full service hosptial 10 minutes up the road.

One of the main bulding they are building there is the Rex Wellness Center. Here is the link explaining the offerings of a Rex Wellness Center.
Per the Rex healthcare website:

More services coming!
Rex Healthcare is proud to announce that we have received state approval to have three operating rooms at our Wakefield campus. We’re pleased be able to offer our highly regarded surgical services to patients in northern Wake County. The service area (northern Wake and Franklin Counties) is expected to grow by 17 percent over the next five years. Now, thousands of patients will have much easier access to the surgical services of Rex. We plan to begin service in July 2008; and expect to serve 3,700 patients in the first year. Additionally, the Rex Healthcare of Wakefield campus will be expanding in 2008 to add a full service Wellness Center.

I thought I had read some place about the wellness center coming. I used to go to the one in cary, it is definitely a nice alternative for people who do not want to join the Y.

It makes sense in that location since there is the rex urgent care there as well.
