Thanks everyone for your feedback.

I am not expecting that Durham or Raleigh be like Boston - I am just hoping that I can live in the "urban core".

I am driving up this weekend and will start looking around at neighborhoods.

i wonder why our urban core is so desirable when we have such poor public transportation.......

Beth Or is a great Reform Temple in Raleigh, just outside the Beltline (440). It would be within 10 miles of downtown.

Durham is more "urban" in feeling than Raleigh, but as said, both cities' downtowns are a very small part of the real estate of the city. This is overall a very suburban area.
