For all the gardening folks out there, is this a problem worth spending money on or not?

I have Weedman for our fertilizer/weed issues -and this week I get a call from a "disease specialist" who is not our normal technician. He says NC State Ag Dept has issued a new warning due to the rainfall in NC this year and higher humidity/warm temperatures. He recommended everyone get two $79 treatments to get rid of fungus that may happen in the spring. He says the damage will be huge to Bermuda and warm season grasses this year due to the rainfall, and will turn up large brown spots in the Spring.

I told him no. He gave me a website also:
large patch | NC State Turf Pathology

This is a legitimate concern. The treatment is sort of like insurance--you don't know if you really need it, but there is a risk that you will. So your considerations are 1. would you care if you did get the die back, 2. could you wait to treat until you see the problem in the spring--and would treatment work at that point, 3. would you hate to have to replant that area later, 4. will the company warranty that you will not get the fungus if you have their treatments and do they offer to remedy the fungal effects in the spring if the treatment doesn't stop the fungus. #4 woud be key to me, but realize they might only offer an additional treatment since they aren't miracle workers.

My yard is common Bermuda grass, and I'm not going to worry about it.

Sounds to me like that $19.00 oil change turned into $200.00 of brakes and a $175.00 water pump.

YMMV

Super

Default Warm Season Fungicide

At this point, I would highly recommend you treating it from a fungicide that Supersod in Cary NC or Raleigh. If it is not brown patch, think of it as preventative otherwise treatment. Unless you have a rampant issue, seek Supersod's help as their product is much better than Lowe's or HD.

$160 for a maybe? I think not.

What a nice tidy sales pitch - "If nothing happens, you know it worked!"

The "disease specialist" guy kept calling and calling when I was at work, and I was finally able to answer it. I told him I decided to not do the treatments.

He said, "Okay, now don't blame us if you have large brown spots in the Spring."

Really? That's the kind of customer conversations that you choose to do? Anyway, I'll save $160 and take my changes in the Spring!
