Default About Wake Forest

For those of you that live in Wake Forest, or know it well...

I get the feeling it's so far from everything. Is this true?
Its so pretty and the houses are so big, with big yards, etc.

Which subdivisions are "family oriented", and are they close to supermarkets, etc.?
How far is RTP?
Crabtree Mall?
Closest major Hospital, and it's distance?

Thanks.

We're closing on a home in WF (Reynolds Mill) this summer. My husband has been working down in that area and checked out all the surrounding areas and compared schools, commute, shopping, etc. His recommended and preferred area to live was WF. I took a trip down for the weekend to see the area for myself, and from what I saw, I would never have to leave WF. Everything was right there.

I guess the simple answer is, its as close as you want it to be and as far as you need it to be. I say that because many people that live in WF work in RTP. WF is a growing community and many stores, restaurants, and services are moving into and around WF.

I travel from Western WF to RTP everyday and it takes me about 30 minutes each way. This is traveling before rush hour before and after work. For rush hour you can add another 10 to 15 minutes each way. Crabtree mall is about 25 minutes one way.
There are a few emergency care centers in and near WF. I don't know the closest major hospital.

All the subdivisions are 'Family oriented' unless you get into a 55 years and up community. We do have a Big-Box mart some call it Walmart. There is a Target also. That's the two biggest whether your looking in Raleigh or Rochester, NY.

WF is worth a look. Here is a great online paper on Wake Forest. It is filled with the towns happenings and growth plan. See the article titled, "The Growth Rate" that will give you a feel for what communities are being built and what stores are coming as well as the medical complex they are building right here in little ole WF.

The Wake Forest Gazette - Editor Carol Pelosi - Wake Forest News, Weather and Sports - Wake Forest Events - -Wake Forest, NC

Good luck in your search and please give WF a look! We'd love to see ya back here, ya hear!

I can't answer the first question for you but I can tell you this that most of your shopping center are very close and it is 20 Miles from RTP and takes about 25 -30minutes to get to RTP. Crabtree mall is little far out but they have Triangle town Center that is within 10-15 min. There is a hospital on Wake Forest road that is about 10 -20 miles depanding on the location of your home.

There are many nice communities in Wake Forest and it is growing at approx. 4% every year. I hope this helps. Good Luck.

The reason why i ask about the Emergency Room service (hospital) is because my son has Asthma, and in the past I've had to take him to the E.R., and I want to make sure I can get to an E.R. within 5 minutes (if I had to).

So this might be a strange comparison, but for those from NY, would you say its kind of like Long Island? The major mall being Roosevelt Field, and yet you have supermarkets by your house...but not across the street. More like 5 minutes away, etc.?

wake forest does not have a hospital within 5 minutes. The closest is a stand alone ER which is off of falls of the neuse, and is about 15 minutes (or 20) from wake forest. It would be closer if you lived in a subdivision in north raleigh like bedford or falls river.

There is talk about moving the hospital that is in franklinton (franklinton regional) to youngsville, north of wake forest, but that would still not be 5 minutes.

wake forest has many many subdivisions, grocery stores, shopping, restaurants. The closest mall is triangle town center, and depending on where you live in wake forest it could be 10 minutes or 20 minutes away.

Commuting to work, again it depends on where you live and where you work in rtp. We live on the west side of town (most conducive to working in the park) and it is 30 minutes, and there really never is that much traffic, no interstates, etc. People who live on the eastern side of town can expect to add 10-15 minutes (or more) to their commute.

Leigh

Default Been living in WF for a year now...

I would recommend WF to anyone (and frequently do) we love it here, everything you "need" is close and the malls etc are all within an easy drive. I work at home so we don't deal with much traffic but I know a few people that commute and say it's not bad, just stay off Capital Blvd.

You can drive pretty much anywhere in the RTP area in about 30 minutes, although Capital blvd. sucks on the weekends, I like to think of it as a vortex where people all of a sudden forget how to drive.

We live in Heritage "Two" which is the newest section and it is ALL families, tons of kids (babies to middle schoolers) and overall a great neighborhood, there are block parties, poker nights, families always out walking and chatting and we've become good friends with a lot of our neighbors. There are also a ton of amenities coming, we've got a new pool with a lazy river, playgrounds, a nature trail and a big fishing pond with a pier and everything. Most of those things are still being built, I would imagine they will be done this year.

I've spoken with friends that live in Wakefield and Stonegate and they both say that they wish there were more kids (or that they lived in our 'hood)
