We live in North Raleigh off of Falls of Neuse and usually at least weekly we hear and feel a rumble seemingly from underground in the area. Feels like a one second long mini-earthquake. Today it happened around 4 to 4:30 PM, and our neighbor was with us and felt it. Does anyone know what this is?

There is a quarry off of US1 North. I felt the blasts as well. It is always preceded by sirens.

The title made me think this post was going to feature a street fight between North Raleigh soccer moms and the local garden club, or something.

We are in South Cary, but I've experienced exactly what you described - like 1 second earthquake. Sometimes it happens late at night. Thought it was my imagination...

Definitely the quarry. If you contact them they have a call list and will notify you with a recorded message before they blast.
It happens most often on Wednesday.
