Will do! I'm thinking more and more about heading up to DC and staying the night though, we'll see.

Went to the acorn drop twice; once in 2006/7 (wasn't 21 yet) and then just this past year. While it's obviously more fun when you can enjoy some drinks at the bars on Fayetteville street....it wasn't really that great. The lines at all of the good food trucks and the waits at all of the restaurants were insane. The live music right by where they drop the nut is decent but honestly nothing to write home about.

Parties at home or at a local bar/pub would probably be more fun.

If I was going out NYE, I think I'd walk the fun people's procession parade that goes from the museums/capitol down to the acorn, catch the acorn, then catch See Gulls and T0W3Rs at the Vintage Church next door to Marbles. Some of that is free, but other parts are part of the paid First Night activities (all of it is part of First Night).

Then I'd head over to the Pour House, which has a good lineup with some fun NC bands: Love Language, Zack Mexico and Faults.

Go to the Hockey game!
Puck drops at 6:00, and that early start leaves plenty of time to party downtown.

Whenever I think hockey and the holidays, this Western Hockey League tradition comes to mind:

We did that one New Years Eve with friends. Fun night out although we didn't get downtown afterwards.

Ah, didn't realize they had a game that night. The start time is convenient at least.

Never been there. Do you need reservations or would you just be able to walk in?

Why drive to Pa for a pickle drop? Easy commute to Mount Olive, NC. They have a annual pickle drop. Just saying!

PS We enjoy downtown Raleigh for bringing in the new year. It is what it is. Raleigh NC
