Alright, another question.
While we are still searching for an area to settle down some of our friends mentioned that Cary, Durham and most of other Wake county areas have a huge water problem. I am into maintaining atleast some green in my lawn, not as much as a water waster but I beleive in having a good lawn and some curb bushes to help contribute my share to clean air (to make up for the pollution I make .

Having said that, are there some towns that enforce water standards more stricter than others. Some towns where water column is too low?. I understand there is a severe drought in the southern states now including the carolinas, georgia, etc but am wondering in general during the normal years do we avoid certain areas?.

Any comments/ suggestions appreciated.

Thanks

Honestly I wouldn't plan on watering your lawn in Raleigh or Durham this summer. I think Cary will at a minimum cut back from 3 days to 2, but it could be more drastic than that. Cary really isn't currently in a dire situation with water at this point. Raleigh and Durham's situation isn't great right now.

I too like a healthy green lawn. I would suggest buying a home with established landscaping (probably pre 2006 at a minimum) and / or buying a home with bermuda or zoysia grass if you can deal with how it looks in the winter (it's not my cup of tea).

I wouldn't count of watering your lawn anytime soon. That said there are alternatives, like using rain barrels. And - yes - I'm assuming that the rain will come sometime.

It will be a rocky time in the near future but it won't be this dire forever.

The entire South Eastern portion of the US is in a severe drought. There are places in the Triangle with very little water and almost all of the towns and cities here are on very tight water restrictions, and yes, they are very serious about it as it is a very serious problem.
Under "normal" conditions, I would say Cary has generally been the most strict with their restrictions, but in retrospect of the drought situation, Cary also has the largest water supply left of most areas in the triangle.
I will say that in the future, even if the drought corrects itself over the next few years, most triangle cities have learned a great deal about water supply issues and I highly doubt any town in the triangle will ever go back to no restrictions at all. I would expect to see most triangle areas adopt Cary's year round water restrictions.

Grass can be reseeded and regrown.

water comes from the sky and we can't make it.

please dont water. let your grass die and spray paint it green if it bugs you that much.
