Curious, what type of answers were you expecting in the "Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, Cary" forum?
Any "non-anecdotal" evidence would therefore have to be backed up by statistics. Traffic counts are usually publicly available by the jurisdiction and/or State Department who commissioned them.
Given that speed limits on roads do not change due to the day of the week, the only answer for increased commute times on Google Maps for Tuesday would be due to traffic. This assumes that your original question is based on entering the exact same starting/ending point all 4 days of the week and noting that Tuesday is more often than not a longer travel time. The argument "more often than not" should be backed up by the user actually entering the same point for multiple weeks - this should not be based on opinion. I do not have evidence to support that claim as I do not enter the same starting/ending point into Google Maps every day of the week, multiple weeks (to be able to claim that Triangle Tuesday commute time is always worse).
Traffic statistics do not delve into why there is more traffic - that is not their purpose. Therefore your question of "Why Tuesday?" has been answered: Traffic.
Anything above and beyond that answer is purely opinion, which you indicated you're not interested in.
If you wanted a technical answer, I would suggest a technical forum, I'm not sure why this was posted in the "Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, Cary" forum.
The reason that travel times on Tuesdays are longer is simply because time is relative. Everybody knows that time passes much more slowly on Mondays than any other day of the week. Therefore the amount of time one spends in the car on a Monday is a smaller percentage of the day compared to other days. Conversely, time on other days passes much faster due to comparing the passage of time with the Monday time frame, so the amount of time that is spent in the car is a greater percentage of the day compared with that from Monday.

That's the answer. Thread closed.
