So many great comments, thanks! I am not worried about the food scene...right now most restaurants around us are chains so it can only get better. I am looking forward to trying out what the Tirangle has to offer.
Moved to Durham from Tampa (with a brief year stopover in Connecticut in between). One of the best decisions of my life, for what that is worth. I like virtually everything about it here more, though obviously not everyone has the same taste. My wife feels the same as I do - its just a genuinely happy place. People are happy, active and friendly. There is also an outrageous amount of culture, food and just things to do while still being a relatively manageable size.
Yeah, all those James Beard award-winning chefs in the Triangle just suck.
I have a lot of theories about the particular poster you were responding to...many things not adding up. I think we here should just let bygones be bygones...some people are not capable of being happy.
