Long story short, I lost my keys, somewhere between here and Mississippi, over Christmas. I never even used them! On the ring were three Toyota car keys - a 2004 Camry, a 2010 Prius and a 2012 Camry. We are learning that replacement is expensive. One locksmith would charge $125, $65 just to come out, to replace the 2004 key. That was the simplest of the three. But we could tell that he really didn't want to do it. Can anyone suggest the best way to get these three replacement keys?

If you have the VIN #'s, call the dealership. Parts Dept. They may be able to provide duplicates based on the VIN, particularly on the latter models.

If you have the car, you have easy access to the VIN (Vehicle Identification Number). It is visible through the windshield.

Locate the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) | DMV.org

I feel for you. I lost our two Honda keys last summer...cost me almost $400 to replace them!

Cutting the key itself isn't the expensive part, it's the new fob and the programming of it that you're paying for. As others mentioned, the dealership can cut the key with the VIN but I think they're going to need the car there in person for programming your new fobs.

Yes, AND be prepared to show registration in your name before they give you the key code. New chip keys aren't cheap. I looked for my GF's honda, and it wasn't that much cheaper going to a locksmith.

Thank you for your replies. We just talked with one of the dealerships. $800 to replace the keys. The Prius alone is $400. Hold onto your keys!
