Just checking to see if any other property owners on here stuck on the LAST legs of the newly proposed route ( Green and Mint)? Glad the Orange route property owners should get bought out in the next couple of years and end their limbo but not sure everyone understands those on the remaining legs are still stuck. Those of us on the Green route have been on a map along with the Orange route for 20+ years. Wasn't a restricted corridor but who really will buy property at a fair price where a major freeway MIGHT come through SOMEDAY? Thought the NC legislature was going to do something to help protect property owners but NC Senate dropped the ball. Checking to see if any other Green/Mint property owners who would like to get on with their lives, have heard anything else besides sit and wait for another decade or longer (if at all) per NCDOT?

With professional environmentalists involved, basically, nothing has changed.
All NCDOT did with the selection was set the stage for the lawsuits and the delays, a la Herb Bonner.
I thought this project was going through comeplete the whole loop so once any environmental issues get worked out it should happen at the same time as Orange.
We had hoped it would be "one project" but contacted NCDOT who said it would be done in legs and ours is not proposed for at least ten years "if even then". Plus have also heard they do not have the funds for the entire leg. Not even sure what the environmental answer is on this .
Wow, that's certainly not the way they've advertised this with the whole "Finish 540" tag line.
They'll probably break the project up into 3 segments (Holly Springs to 401, 401 to I-40/Clayton Bypass, Clayton Bypass to 264). They may award the contracts for some of the segments simultaneously but it really depends on whether the projects are funded by the state or not.

That's very common with large projects like this one. They break the project into "segments" and place each of those segments out for bid. Sometimes the same contractor will win the bid for multiple segments, sometimes there is a different contractor for each segment. Just look at the Greensboro Urban Loop and the last part (15 miles) was divided up into 4 separate segments/contracts.

They can do a 4th segment/contract for just for the I-40/NC540/Clayton Bypass interchange aka Spaghetti Junction.
The existing portion of 540 was broken into segments. It initially only went to 55 in Morrisville, then extended to 64 in Apex, then finally ended up at 55 in Holly Springs.

Indeed, you're actually fairly spot on. The first contract will be awarded in fiscal year 2017-2018 for R-2721 (NC 55 Bypass to U.S. 401). The second segment is R-2828 (U.S. 401 to I-40) and the final segment will be R-2829 (I-40 to U.S. 64/264 Bypass aka I-495).
The first two segments are what has been referred to as the Orange Route. The final segment is the green/mint route.
