I guess it depends on what you're looking for. If you want a decent sized yard I would avoid the Charlestons and Preservation Homes for sure. With kids I would say any of the interior areas. We have found that there are lots of families with kids in the K Hov sections.

I also echo what NRG said about living on a busy street. Personally I would avoid Bedfordtown and Falls River Avenue because of the traffic. Although the old Parker Orleans (now Drees?) section of Bedfordtown doesn't get as much traffic since its kind of off to the side. I would also avoid Cardington, but I might just be extra wary about the traffic. lol Maybe it doesn't bother others as much. We used to live on Summerton Drive in Falls River and hated it because of the traffic.

We are in the Drees section, and there are lots of kids here. Our kids travel in packs. They yard sizes vary, but there are many green spaces where they congregate for different activities: football, whiffleball, frisbee, soccer, and street hockey being the most popular. There are all ages of kids in this section.

Hi everyone. So I was interested in a townhome in bedford. I just noticed that Bedford was pretty close to the Neuse River. For those of you that were around during Fran...I know the Neuse flooded a lot of homes in N. Raleigh and Northern Wake Co.. Do you think the townhomes may be flood prone (they are relatively close to the river). I tried looking at those fema maps, but they are sort of hard to understand. The townhome would be around winding waters way. Thanks!

No, they don't have any yards at all and the neighbors house is so close they don't even have to walk next door to borrow some sugar. They can just open the windows and hand it over. Personally, I couldn't live like that. I just don't trust people enough. If someone living in an area like that has a careless neighbor who sets their house on fire, the houses on both sides are going to burn too!

Just and FYI, while there are homes in Bedford with minimal yards, there are also several that have lots starting at .21 acres and up. It really depends on the model type you are interested in buying. Different parts of Bedford have different lot sizes. Of course price comes in to play, but you can get 1/4 to 1/3 of an acre in Bedford if you want it.

Sorry to reiterate, but does anyone know how flood prone the area is being that it borders the Neuse River?

What's the price range on those preservation craftsmen style homes? I LOVE THOSE!

JQ--I've not heard of any flooding issues. If there was an issue, it probably would have been discussed on the Bedford website forums. Haven't seen anybody mention it there.

Just since we haven't had a real rain in a while I wasn't sure if flooding was an issue there...it was just a shock to me to see how close the river was to Bedford. They must be in a hilly area?

the people closer to the river are lower than I am, but I'm still fairly close to the river. I've lived in Falls River and Bedford since 98 and I've never heard of any flooding by me.

We looked into this pretty hard when we built in Bedford. The GIS maps had some weird flood info on them and we wanted to be sure that we weren't in a flood zone before we built.

To me, the bigger issue with the townhomes or the estate section is the quarry. You will feel the blasts, particularly on the 3rd floor of those townhomes. I know somebody who lives in them and he said that the 3rd floor bedroom is the worst when the blasts go off.
