Default Leaving Miami, coming to Raleigh!

Well, yet another family that will be relocating to the area this summer. We're in Miami and it's time for a change. Been down here 15 years now.

Our plan is to come up in June and spend about six weeks scoping out the area. We don't mind renting for a year, but we have a daughter in KG. I do not want to live somewhere for a year, and then have to switch her to a different school. We want to find an area suitable for us, then set up camp. My folks live in Raleigh so we're somewhat familiar with the area.

Can anyone recommend any good short term housing places for about six weeks? I know there's Extended Stay's and other corporate housing there. We would need a place furnished because our stuff will be packed away.

Also, I've been reading this board regularly, so I figured I'd throw out our "criteria" and see what you guys think.

We are NOT into cookie cutter neighborhoods. That's all there is in south Florida unless you have $750,000 to spend. We definitley want a detached single family home in a quite, kid-friendly neighborhood. Lots of trees and nice yards is a must. The kind of neighborhood that makes you feel good when you drive in. We certainly want to be convenient to shopping, but not right next to it. A more established neighborhood would be great. (We're not really interested in a place where the people are excited that a Wal-Mart is opening.) We'd love a place that has a little less urban sprawl. Diversity is very important. Budget would top out at just over $300000.

So far, Woodcroft looks great, and Falls River in North Raleigh seems nice, but maybe TOO suburban. Any suggestions?

Sorry for the long post!

mboogey, (glad to see you edited your last post, by the by ) as I read your first post I thought, "That sounds exactly like my neighborhood", so it's good that you have Woodcroft on your list. Hopefully others will have some additional ideas for you. If nothing else, you'll have plenty of time to discover some great neighborhoods all on your own during those 6 weeks.

I think extended stay hotels have been mentioned often in the past. Use the search feature to find older threads on that subject.

MrsSteel,

Sorry for my impatience. I'm off today trying to get things done.

My interest in Woodcroft is based in no small part to your posts and pictures!

Whereabout in Miami are you? I'm up the road a wee bit from ya.

I'm a native Floridian and have finally had enough. We're hoping to relocate sometime this summer.

I grew up in Cooper City and moved to the Land of the Plastic People (Boca) about 4 1/2 years ago. We wanted to leave last year, but then there were family issues. This year? We just can't put off the inevitable any longer.
