Default Townhomes near Crabtree?

Relocating to Raleigh soon. I'll be near the mall so something around there would be ideal. I've heard Laurel Hills and Townes at Crabtree are ok. Has anyone heard about these or anything else around this area?

I like Glenwood North too. There are some really nice townhouses near Glen Eden but they are pricey. Its really going to depend on your price range.

Thanks for the reply. I would be willing to spend 300k (maybe 350k). I would rather be closer to downtown than away from it on Glenwood (so I'm looking near the Creedmoor/Glenwood intersection). Is this where Glen Eden is? Obviously I don't know too much about the area...

Glen Eden is a very unique location near Crabtree because it's accessible to inside the Beltline via Glen Eden Drive (which doesn't have an interchange with the Beltline). This makes access to that part of town easy and traffic free.
From the corner of Glen Eden and Edwards Mill, you can travel directly South to access the RBC Center, Wade Ave and I-40 West. Directly East, you access old school neighborhoods and Carolina Country Club and Directly North you have Crabtree Mall and surrounds. I used to live in the general area and found it to be one of the best areas of town for driving convenience.

The townhouses that I was thinking of are called Bentley Ridge. They are around the $305,000 price point. Also, Harrington Pointe is near 540 and Leesville Road. Barton Park is off Pinecrest, close to Glenwood. Inman Park may have something. They are about a mile from Crabtree Valley Mall/Glenwood Avenue.

In your price range, you may want to consider a single family detached house in Long Lake.

You are lucky in that you have so many choices!

Hello James2008

I may be a bit biased since I live there but for convenience and value we cannot find a better place than Draymoor Manor Subdivision.

Location: The corner of Leesville and Westgate Roads. From Glenwood Ave/Hwy 70 to a right onto Westgate Road. Entrance to neighborhood is at Leesville Road. Form I-40 take I-540 to Leesville Road exit. Turn right, neighborhood is at the intersection of Leesville and Westgate Roads (near Strickland Road).

We looked for a long time to find the right balance of value and convenience. Like you, we wanted to be close enough to downtown without paying IBL (inside the belt line) prices. We are 8 miles (10 minutes) from Crab Tree Mall. Our town homes have 1 or 2 car garages, 1900 – 2500 sf. We are walking distance to daycare, vet, 1 grocery store (3 in driving), 3 pharmacies, excellent schools, 2 miles from airport, ¼ mile to 540 exit. We work in Cary & RTP and both drives average 18 minutes. If you are an outside person, William B. Umstead State Park is 2 miles away.

Also,
The Raleigh City Council on Tuesday approved the master plan for Leesville Community Park. A part of the 2000 Parks and Recreation Bond package, the 55-acre park is located across from the Leesville Road School campus and will include a branch of the Wake County Library System and future community center. The library will be included in phase 1 development and is expected to open in early 2009.
The master plan also includes a playground, two miles of paved park trails, a multi-use path system, a natural interpretive area, an outdoor classroom, open space and a heritage garden. The City Council decided to substitute a picnic shelter with open space for a proposed off-leash dog area in the final plan.

I would stay away from Barton Park, no guest parking, very tight building placement and you would save 50K. We also looked at Harrington Pointe but decided not to move there since they were again 50K more and directly under the RDU flight path and traffic getting from/onto 540 is horrible.

Sorry for such a long reply but once I got started it was hard finding a stopping point.

Good luck on your house hunt.
