Had a short chat with a gentleman in a hard hat at the corner of high house and Maynard in front of the Kroger, which is ground zero for this outage. He said a subcontractor boring a hole to install conduit for new fiber cut two trunk lines. Still under repair after more than 24hours. The bill to clean it up will run to $565,000... Yowch.

I'm sure they have to factor in a pretty large amount to cover run of the mill stuff like a phone line to a house or sprinkler, etc and I assume they have insurance to cover major stuff but maybe it's all covered by the contract. They hit a large gas line at 54 and Cary Parkway a few weeks ago and they had to close the intersection for a few hours. That can't be cheap.
