Considering moving into the South Lakes / North Lakes community in the near future. I have read through the boards, but most of what I have found was older stuff from when the community first popped up.

Any new insight into the community? Happy with it?

Important to us:
1. Good Schools
2. Sense of Community
3. Stable residents / less turn over
4. Areas / streets you would suggest avoiding within the community (traffic, water drainage, etc.) for what ever reason.

Other things we already are confident in - good area, convenience, commute time and distance, etc.

Thank you.

The schools question cant really be answered. They are building new schools in South Lakes, not open yet though, so no telling how good they will be.

I have lived in South Lakes for just over a year. Here is my take.

1. Good Schools - My kids go to Willow Springs and love it as do we. Great school.

2. Sense of Community - Great overall community. People seem to look out for one another for the most part, especially on the moms of south lakes page. I do know there are some local cops, active and retired special forces, snipers, FBI and I think CIA folks in the neighborhood. Also some military pilots. A local cop told me he thinks this is the safest neighborhood in South Lakes due to that. I would agree. Also on the 4th of July you get several houses that do their own fireworks shows. And they are great, they use the large ones. We have two near us and we could see both sets and they went on for about an hour each. But of course you get some folks who complain about the noise.

3. Stable residents / less turn over - Stable for the most part, some turnover is military related, and people being relocated.

4. Areas / streets you would suggest avoiding within the community (traffic, water drainage, etc.) for what ever reason. - there are none that i can think of and i have driven through most, if not all of the neighborhood. If i had to say one i would say those houses backing up to the Greenway due to snakes etc. But even the people i know that border it have no big issues. Most have fences.

I work in RTP and the commute is around 45-50 mins. I don't mind it as i have work from home option at times and can avoid traffic. Once 540 comes it will be a lot better, but manageable for now. Overall we love the community and the town. It has just about everything we need and highly recommend it. The only issue i see going forward may be with the impact of North Lakes and the school and any thru traffic in the neighborhood. Also, town traffic is picking up and can get pretty busy. But as far as downtown's go i like FV better than Cary, Apex and HS. Just my opinion though. Any other questions feel free to PM me.

Just be aware that beautiful main entrance will soon become a mini-storage facility with an entrance inside the neighborhood. The commercial area at the front of our neighborhood has been rezoned for light industrial despite strong opposition from the residents. So much for the master planned community they promised...
