Hi Folks!

Does anyone have suggestions on where I can get old newspapers?

My children have various arts & crafts they like to do and I use old newspapers for different projects that I work on... Not looking for any paper in particular. Just looking to have the paper.

Thank you for any wisdoms?

Ian

Maybe check the libraries? I know they get a bunch of daily papers, not sure what they do with them when they're done.

Also (might be a long shot) ask the N&O what they do with the old papers. I think they pickup the unsold ones.

Do you mean old newspapers like from the 1970s or just old newspapers like last week's? If last week's ask your neighbors or take them of the the recycling.

I use newspapers as a weed suppressor and put mulch over them. Since I don't get delivery of the paper, I would get up super early on recycle day and take them from my neighbor's curbside bins.

I felt a little funny doing it at first but I figure, they're going to be recycled anyway, why not put them to use?

If your neighborhood has a Nextdoor.com, I can usually get things like that by posting there.

I used to work for a newspaper (not the N&O), but the place I worked would keep about 6 weeks worth of old papers so that people could come in and purchase old papers for various uses/reasons. You can probably try the N&O . It costs quite a bit of money to print newspapers, so I doubt they would just give you old papers for free.

Looks like the N&O has information about their old newspapers.

How do I purchase an old issue of the newspaper?

The N&O archives back issues for approximately six months. For availability and pricing, please contact News & Observer customer service at 800-522-4205 or submit a ticket.

Yeah I'd cross N&O off the list...they are selling the papers, probably for someone who needs content.

Sounds like you need the material, regardless of content. Does your HOA/neighborhood have a facebook page? How about posting there before recycle day?

Last time we house trained a dog we picked up newspapers from a large recycle bin at a nearby elementary school...Douglas near North Hills. Something like that might work.

N&O could probably still do it. Doesn't hurt to call and ask. There's a difference between requesting a certain archived issue (they're really charging for the time it takes to assist you with finding the specific issue) and requesting whatever surplus they happen to have and are likely going to recycle anyway.
