Hey Everyone. Just wandering if there is a school out there that follows a classical education model and if so, has anyone on the forums had any experience with it.
Thanks.

Are you looking for a non-religious one? There are also a couple of good Christian ones--Cary Christian and Trinity (in Raleigh).

Trinity School in Chapel Hill (or maybe it's just over the line in Durham). Has a very good reputation though I've never been there to check it out myself.

Raleigh Latin is a great place. This is my first year teaching there and I think there are many wonderful things about it. I love that the classes are small. The students are bright. The curriculum is excellent. The school has a great vision that they are consciously working toward.
The middle schoolers get a really good grounding in grammar. Everybody takes Latin (French, Spanish, and Ancient Greek are offered to high school students as well). Philosophy classes are offered at most grade-levels (will be offered at all grades eventually, I believe).
The high school offers many AP courses. Of course, science and math classes happen.. can't say I really know much about what goes on in those though.

I recommend checking into it.

Are there Episcopal schools there? Episcopal schools traditionally follow a british/anglican model of classical ed., at least all the ones I'm familiar with in Charlotte, Tampa, Richmond, VA, and DC.

I am curious if all the classic schools taught that many languages. I understand spanish (how is that biblical?) as it would be quiet useful given the local mix. But French, Latin, Ancient Greek, Hebrew and spanish seem to be mandatory languages. That seems too little much while the kids are trying to wrestle with the usual Math, Science problems. But then again most kids seem to be doing well even with this overload. Boy, am I glad that I dont have to go to school anymore. (Thinking back how relaxed we were in learning. We show up and they teach, that were pretty much the choices. Now the applications and waitlisting starts 6 months before the school year start. Not to mention the cost of elementary education.)

We are sending our kids to Oak City Academy this Fall. OCA follows a classical model and uses the Montessori method in the grammar stage. We are really excited about the school.
