vietnamese is in my blood, so i think i can be proud to say i can say a few things about restaurants around here, and nothing around here really meets the big city vietnamese foods, but if i had to recommend places, here they go:
Pho Cali off of capital: by far the most fair and good Pho around in raleigh
9n9 : satisfies cravings, but service is bad like many asian restaurants lol. but they are good as well.
Dalat : the WORST vietnamese food. I just told my brother about whoever up there said it was good, and his exact quotes : "whoever said that doesn't know what vietnamese food is" lol.
Lime and Basil in chapel Hill : My close friend actually owns this one. I love it, but not to sound biased, i will just highly suggest you to go there yourself :-)
New to the area, but I have to agree with dummboy23... Dalat is a poor attempt at Viet food. There spring roll sauce doesn't even taste like peanut sauce--it's a red tangy sauce (unless they brought the wrong one out to us). Their Pho is sub par at best--more convenient to me, but I'd much rather drive out to Cali Pho. Cali Pho reminds me more of the CA restaurants, not only the Pho, but also the Bun Bo Hue is great too. I haven't tried 9n9 since we're never out there, but we'll have to do it sometime.
Yeah I have eaten @ the Capital Blvd Vietnamese place. It is a little wierd and some food store @ the entrance smells bad but besides that the Pho is the best I ever ate. I love Pho Cali but honestly the Pho is better on Capial. They also have sandwiches that are slightly more than $1.
