Was Southern State Nissan, corner of Wake Forest and Hodges (actually, across from Hodges) the original? I've only been around since 1984, so maybe I'm not old enough to remember the original!

That's the first one I remember.

This makes me think of the Ford dealership that was down on "Downtown Blvd" before it became Capital Blvd. It was on the west side of the Blvd and south of Peace St. in what today would be considered the furthest east side of Glenwood South. It had a Polynesian style building that was basically round in nature.
We bought our first car there after moving to Raleigh in 74. I want to say that it was Wiegel-Sanders or maybe just Wiegel or Sanders. My memory fails me on the name. I just really remember that building.

It was Charlie Wygul ford when I remember it from when I was a kid in the 70s. Not totally sure of the spelling of the last name though.
I want to say some government agency took the building over maybe for vehicle maintenance. For the longest time, they had torn the showroom down but kept the foundation in place or at least the outline.
Edit: I just checked a couple map sites and it does seem to still be that way.
Yeah, was Harmon Nissan in 1986. What year did it change over to southern states?
And that plymouth dealer was the only one in the early 80s?
Not sure when they changed to Southern State.
There was another Dealership in mid to late 70's that sold Mopar. It was on Capital Blvd. on the left just beyond Brentwood Rd. I believe U-Haul is there now. They sold Dodge for sure. Don't remember the name.
Fred Anderson took over the Nissan dealership from Southern States on Wake Forrest Road and has since relocated the franchise to a newly constructed Nissan facility on Glenwood Avenue among their other Fred Anderson dealerships.

I just purchase a DATSUN B210 1982 and in the back have a sticker of Harmon Nissan Raleigh, I'm going to try my best to drive down there and take pictures were this car was born.
