I'm now living in Brier Creek, having completed my relocation from the UK. I've never played golf in my life (never even picked up a club!) but it would seem stupid to be living in NC and not to play a bit - especicially living so close to a course in Brier Creek!

The question is - does anyone know where I can get good "beginners" golf lessons, for a half reasonable price? As I say, I havent even held a club, so it would be really starting from the basics

Thanks!

Brier Creek course is pretty pricey. They have a two month trial membership you should ask about. I think it was 300/400 a month and that included not just golf. Of course after two months you'd have to fork over a fair amount of money and join if you wanted to keep playing.

Since you want beginner level classes, you might want to check to see if a local community college would offer the classes? Then when you have the basics down take one on one classes with a pro at a course.

I needed to learn golf for business/network purposes. So that's the route I took. CPCC in Charlotte charged me less than $100 for several weeks of classes. The classes were small (less than 25) and met once a week.

I don't think WakeTech (our local community college) offers classes, but I have taken very basic classes from Durham Parks & Rec (years ago) and from Town of Cary (more recently). Not sure what Raleigh offers.

Thanks for the tips guys - dont think I'll be a paying member of Brier Creek until I at least know how to hold a club! I'll check a couple of these suggestions out, but if anyone has any recommendations please keep them coming!

Thanks again

The golf pro at the University Club (NCSU's faculty club, not the Alumni Center) offers lessons and the word is he is very good. I understand that he teaches nonmembers too.

Okay, I have looked into it and the guy that teaches at the University Club is named Ed and he normally works at Par Golf near Fuquay - on 401. Now, I will tell you that I only know if him teaching kids, but he may teach both.....just does the kids camp at the Club. But then, a beginner is a beginner in my book.

Hope this helps.
