We have lots of Anoles around. It is cool to watch them change colors. Like other mentioned I prefer them to the snakes.
I actually had one in my car once! Had the door open, loading and unloading and one jumped in. I looked all over could not find it and thought it probably got out. A couple of days later I am driving down the road and who should pop his head up from behind the dashboard?!?! I pulled over next chance I had and let him out.
We had one that the cat was chasing on the screen porch run into the house and hide under our sofa. LOL.
They are skittish and totally sweet.

There are fence lizards, too. They're not the same as skinks or anoles. They're brown and more scaly looking as well as I recall. I see the anoles and skinks far more often.
I grew up around Wilmington and Myrtle Beach. Green anoles were very common. We'd see them sunning on the side of the house all the time. We saw a bunch of them at the beach two weeks ago. They're always climbing on the fence around the pull at the condo down there. They are the reason my son now has a gecko!
I've never seen an anole around the Triangle. I find that a bit odd, we get a LOT of skinks here at our house. And we have some fence lizards in the yard too, I've seen them on rare occasions. Never seen an anole around here.
