I plan to get the exterior of my home painted. It's all hardi plak and white wood trim. (Paint is original 9 yrs old). Any recommendations?

Being a first time home owner, what are the questions to ask the painter?

My neighbor recommended Sherwin Williams "Duration" paint instead of "super" paint.

Thanks.

Luis at Pro-Finishes | Raleigh, NC 27609 did the drywall, trim and painting in my basement a few years ago. Amazingly efficient at drywall hanging and taping and extremely diligent interior paint job.

Another comment, I was in Home Depot a couple of months ago to have some paint matched and at their paint center they had a printout of the comparable Sherwin Williams vs. Home Depot paint brands/grades along with contractor and homeowner pricing (or at least pricing from some point in time). The amazing thing was the amount of markup to the homeowner on the Sherwin Williams paint vs. what the Professionals would be charged. The $40-50 a gallon price to the homeowner only cost the professionals $12-15/gallon. So even with their $10 off $50 coupons they are making a ton of money on the paint, if you pay retail.

Five Star Painting - ask for Taylor or Robin. They're fabulous. Have done multiple jobs for us and do it really quickly with great attention to detail. They are great with wall repair (or wood repair, exterior). Previous owner in the new house had "patched" some massive holes they made. Five star came in and you can't even tell it was ever patched.

Sapphire Painting

Troy @ Sapphire has done several jobs for us, and they've all come-out great. His rates are the best I've found too.

One question you want to ask if for their insurance company to send you a copy of their Certificate of Insurance for liability and worker's compensation. Doing the exterior especially if this is a 2 story house you are going to have painters on some high ladders. I like to know that they have coverage in case of an accident.

Hansell Painting is great.

Thanks. Aside insurance aspect,

1. any comment on what paint (brand/type) for hardiplank siding? I don't expect to be in this home beyond 5 more years. But my home is south facing, so I don't want the facade to fade soon. (Also don't want it to fade easily to bleach used in power wash)

2. How about the kind of caulking?
