The Peninsula Trail at Harris Lake has a history trail loop that takes you through an old farm ruins. Some great views of the power station too. Trails

I wish Morrisville would have a trail around the Civil War pits and points of battle.

Are there any good reads about Morrisville and the Civil War? I've never heard of this and am now intrigued.

Also thanks everyone for your posts so far! These are all great ideas!

Join a hiking Meetup...you don't have to actually hike with them...but look and see where they've been hiking. Tried and true trails, good descriptions of the trails, gps to the trailhead and info about parking.

In the woods across street from Town Hall and along Crabtree Creek are some old gun pits still visable. Last Cavalry battle of the Civil War before surrender outside Durham.

A few hits on Google for Battle of Morrisville, but it's largely forgotten.

There is Civil War stuff all around here if you just keep your eyes open. A friend's son in Durham found a cannonball shot a couple of year ago just mucking about in the backyard. They called Bennett Place and were able to determine it wasn't live, but they can still be.
