Due to a number of changing circumstances, we had to postpone our visit to Chapel Hill from mid-October to Spring. It's really OK with us, as we will have longer days and I love the Spring.

As to weather, which would be the best month to visit - April or May? Or even March?

I'd like to come in a "pretty" time of year when some flowering trees and other flowers are out, but also when it's not blazing hot.

What would be the best month - and time of the month - to come out?

Late April I'd say. Shame you can't make it in October. The trees changing color, the hills, the energy is all pretty amazing during October.

I'd agree with late April. It can get hot already by early May, and you don't want to overlap with UNC graduation or it'll be difficult to find hotel/restaurant openings. March can be hit and miss. Some years its beautiful and spring-like, other times, not as much.

Thanks! Yes, that is our one regret. Wanted to see the changing color on the trees.

We do have a terrible pine tree pollen outbreak in April. You may want to do a search on here and see what that period is, I think early to mid April but not 100% sure. It does last a couple of weeks and covers everything in sight.

I'd think May but after graduation (NOT mother's day weekend, whatever you do).

Oh, I vote for April, maybe the first or second week. If you time it right you'll see the azaleas and dogwoods in bloom and they're just gorgeous. I think spring is really the best time of year in Chapel Hill. Love fall, too, but that is on best display in the mountains.

Looking back through pictures from last year, April 7th our dogwoods, azaleas and cherry trees were in bloom. Really stunning time of year here.

Not to rain on early April, but it can still be quite cool...my family came out last year April 3rd-10th and the high there was about 64 if I remember correctly, and lows in the mid-30's. One day it was only about 55!

Best of luck though, and it stayed dry!

April, for sure.

A few years ago, I did this video, and I believe most pics were taken the second week in April when everything was in bloom. There are flowers throughout the summer, but it seems that spring explodes in April.
