I follow 2017 NHL Post Season Probabilities. Until four games ago, the Canes were dead last in the probability list with less than a 20% chance. Now they're higher although still improbable.

Another really nice game in Toronto.
5 wins in a row, all against teams with better than .500 records. And a Canes team that is playing with confidence.

6-0-0 when leading after two periods.
23 penalty kills in a row. #1 in the league in PK.

This has potential to get interesting.

I suppose Montreal will be eager to even the score on Thursday after last Friday's loss in Raleigh.

This team badly needs more scorers. Winning games with 1 or 2 goals max isn't going to get it done most nights. At least the penalty kill is looking mighty sharp, best in the league I believe.

Tampa was depleted with injuries, as are the Canes. Looks like Stall and Lindholm will be back soon.

All in all, after two really stinging losses last week in NY and Boston, where they couldn't close out, and weren't rewarded for grinding out good effort, I will take the win.

It's very unlikely this team will make the playoffs unless they trade some of the talent stockpile on defense for a forward or two who are proven scorers. But that's going to increase payroll, and the question is really whether ownership and management are willing to pay what it takes to make the playoffs this season. I don't think this franchise will survive here without a playoff entry either this season or next.

We are on pace to get to the playoffs this year. The improvement is a notch up from last year, which was a notch up from the year before.

25 games in, this year, we have 25 points.
25 games in, in 2008-2009, we had 26 points.
25 games in last season, we had 20 points and contended mathematically to the last week and a half.

Both the earlier years, we had played 12 on the road and 13 at home.
This season, we have played 15 on the road, plus three more this week, and 10 at home so far.
After this week, the balance of the schedule is weighted heavily to home, and we will prevail.

Like to see Staal back in the lineup, and Lindholm too, particularly if he can take up where he left off.
Both are close.

Gotta feel a little snakebit. Wisnewski last year. Bickell this year.
Putting a lot of pressure on the teenagers.
But, I would rather watch this young team develop than hock the franchise further for a marquee name with a huge contract.

We ARE on the road to the playoffs!

Good luck in LA tomorrow night. Should be a good game. Kings aren't the best right now.

Apples and oranges. The east is better than the west this season. Of the 16 teams in the east, all of them have 25 points or more. In other words, the Canes' 25 points puts them in a three-way tie for last place in the east. I'm not persuaded that this time is in or anywhere close to being in.
