A friend of mine who is an independent owner/operator of a small HVAC company says the maintenance contracts are BS and just a way generate easy revenue and, more importantly, tie you to the company for future major service, repairs, and replacement. I don't know if that's true or not, but my HVAC was installed in 1996 (20 years ago), I've never had it serviced, and I've spent a total of $110 on it in its lifetime. I'm doomed for sure now.

Just had mine cleaned (bought home in January). Coils were filthy, tons of leaves inside which is no big deal, but found a cross threaded pipe going into a valve. Tried to rethread but they were stripped and thankfully valve was under warranty from York. Also getting all ductwork cleaned next week.
