Dear all,

I am wondering how much it would approximately cost for installing an under-sink water purifier - something like this: APEC Water Systems Essence Premium Quality 5-Stage Under-sink Reverse Osmosis Drinking Water Filter System-ROES-50 - The Home Depot

The builder try to charge me $900 just for installation (not include the filtration system). My gut feeling is that is too much, but I am wondering how much would be a fair price (again, just for installation).

Thanks!

I am a homeowner (not a plumber) but have plenty of experience doing minor plumbing jobs. I think a skilled plumber could do this in one hour and charge you $100-$125.

I'd buy it and call a plumber. I'd guess around $100 depending on plumber.

Yes, 900 seems off the charts unless he thought he was buying it for the installation, too, and that at a mark up.

Did you read the manual? Stage 1,2 and 3 filters need changing every 6 months ($120) with other filters needing changed every couple of years. The real cost of that system is not the system itself or the install!

I don't know where you people are getting your numbers, but I don't think you can get any plumber to do anything for $100.

Do it yourself. Should be quite easy. No plumber will touch it for $100.

I agree. You would probably spend $100 just to have the plumber come out and give you a price on the actual install.

Looks like a super easy install for anyone who knows how to use basic tools.

We installed a small hot water heater below our kitchen sink a few years ago. DH tried to do it himself, but it was too tight a fit for his seventy plus year old body to deal with. As I recall, a plumber charged us about $200, maybe a little less.

I agree - $100 is too low for a plumber to make a house call and the builder is WAY overcharging. But make sure the granite has the exact holes you need. Drilling holes after installation is a great way to get a crack in the granite (learned that the hard way in a prior home.)

I have this...2-Stage Under Counter Faucet Water Filter | Aquasana
It took my plumber about 15 min to install. I wouldn't have your builder install it, a plumber can do it and probably a more professional job.
