I just went to six different stores, hardware+big box+auto to try to find a 5 gallon gas can that I could actually control when pouring. I need 5 gallons because I use a lot of fuel with my riding mower and acreage. But, I am not a magician. These new cans need three hands to hold steady and pour, what with the fancy (supposedly) no spill spouts. They also need the strength and patience of a strong man to hold up 30 lbs of gasoline while pouring into the 3 gallon riding mower tank while the safety spout slows everything down. You either need to continuously mash a button, twist a sheath, or press against an opening to get the thing to flow, and if you waver, you need to re-set everything to start up again. So help me find an alternative, PLEASE. The new ones are the biggest design mistakes ever. And did I mention that there is more spillage than you can imagine? Never had a spill with the old fashioned ones.
I put this in the local forum just hoping there was somewhere I could drive to and pick one (or 3) up.
After my last one with a decent control failed, I bought an Eagle Safety Can. Metal, has a flame trap built in and even with the funnel model, easy fill. Plus they seal way better than the new kind. Available on Amazon.

Those are great, assuming they still carry them. I was actually interested in the plastic kind, just with simpler spouts, but these metal ones look pretty good. The True Value item with the siphon looks wonderful, and if I can't find that, then I do go to AgriSupply from time to time so I'll check out the Eagle cans. The prices are a little high compared to the older ones (I just checked), but what can you do. Thanks everyone.
I also like those racing jugs. Just looked and there is one without a spout, which is just fine when using a cheap siphon. Hmmmm. Ideas!
I almost want to say they outlawed the old style plastic ones you are talking about. The new plastic ones are real safe-once you put the gas in, you can't get it out.
I used 1 gallon glass vinegar bottles for years to store gas. Not that it was a good idea, but it worked
