Wegmans seems pretty confident, but no, not a done deal yet.

“We are delighted to move forward with our plans for a store in Chapel Hill,” Ralph Uttaro, Wegmans senior vice president of real estate, said in a news release.
“I know that we will bring a unique shopping experience to the market that will deliver on our promise of incredible customer service, the best ingredients, restaurant-quality prepared foods and consistent low prices,” he said.

There is a difference between confirming interest and officially announcing a new store. Right now, Wegman's has confirmed interest in a store in Chapel Hill.
What happened to the store that was supposedly coming to Cary? Does anyone know?
Which one?
The first announced one over by Cary Towne Center is going to be a while. No formal proposal from the developer has been put forward, as Cary is still working through its Eastern Gateway planning process. Cary is aiming to finalize that around November, and hopefully the developer will move forward on their own planning once that framework is in place.
The second Cary store out by Twin Lakes may actually end up being first, as it doesn't have the same baggage as the bigger development in eastern Cary.
Both of them likely won't be completed for several years though, as there's a lot to be done and Wegmans typically takes its time.
Is there room in Chapel Hill for another supermarket besides Wegman's? I do not know if Publix has been scouting sites in Orange County for possible stores.
Psyched about this but oof, that location! Terrible. There's already an awful traffic situation right at that spot. Of all the places. There's a much better spot on 15/501 - the old South Square Mall spot that is now nothing - but I guess they are leaving that in case the light rail ever actually happens.
