Farm Fresh Grocery Stores. There was one on Capital Blvd - across from Triangle Towne in the shopping plaza with Panera, Ruby Tuesday and Best Buy.

I went there when I was first married (87)- it seemed so "out" - like a road trip to buy spaghetti.

The stores were huge by mid 80 standards - I remember being at one end of the store.. forgetting something and thinking "darn" A few times of that and I didn't return. The chain was way ahead of its time - the timing was off by a few years. Now I think nothing of walking Target end to end - several times !!!!

When I was around 4 years old(1973), I remember going to a Shoney's Big Boy drive inn restaurant somewhere in raleigh. It had the big statue and everything.

also remember when Capital Blvd was North Blvd and there was only an "Old Wake Forest Rd"

Remember the Woolworth's grille at North Hills mall?

Remember pitching pennies in the fountains at the malls?

The Beltline was only two lanes in each direction resulting in a scary Indianapolis 500 speedway?

Capital i mean North Blvd was only two lanes on each side and the us1/401 split was the edge of civilization?

I remember when that ended. One particular Christmas shopping season, there were some key weekends with bad weather that prevented people from getting out of their houses to the mall. This caused Hudson Belk to open on some the remaining Sundays during the season. Once Pandora's box was open, there was no shutting it again. Now if we can just get some ChickFil-A on Sundays!

I hope not. I have more respect for Chick-Fil-A because they stand up for what they believe in. Same goes for the McDonalds on Falls of Neuse at Spring Forest.

What a great thread! I've had a blast reminiscing about the ways things were... some of the places mentioned were before my time, but for the children of the 80s, remember The Closet at North Hills? And Thom McCann and Kinney's shoes at Crabtree? I vividly remember those shopping trips. We also did a lot of shopping at the Belk's downtown (The Bargain Basement).

Good times!!

Anyone remember Reynolds and Silva in the morning on WRDU?
The only radio morning show that I've ever really enjoyed listening to. The station was one of the best mainstream rock stations in the country for a while there in the late 80s, early 90s.
