Was it Gino's Pizza? He was a professional place kicker in the NFL I believe and started the Gino's Pizza Restaurant.

Does anyone remember the underground toy store on Person street? It was probably the early 60s. I think it may have been Walgreens. It had a real narrow and steep set of stairs to the basement. It would have failed all safety and fire codes today.

I believe it was "Sir Pizza"....I think but I remember Gino's also. It was on Fayetteville St. near the auditorium. They moved out to South Hills in Cary in the late 60's.

I remember it well. The upstairs used to be a "dime store" but I don't remember if the store downstairs was independent of the upstairs or not. The building is now Person St. Pharmacy. I occasionally eat lunch there at the lunch counter.

It was called both North and Downtown Blvd. The Beltline was the dividing line between the names.

I believe at one time that's exactly right.

Does anyone remember the guy on Six Forks, near North Hills, that had his front yard set up as a putting green? I met him once at the K W Restaurant at North Hills. He was eating by himself and I was too. He was older than I and ask me to dine with him, I did. He was a very nice man and loved to talk about investments. His home was a corner lot and actually looked like a putting green.

Sure do. His name was Jimmy, and he was a retired career Marine. I stopped and talked with him several years ago about his lawn. He recently died, but his wife still does a pretty good job maintaining his lawn.
