It was actually a real cinema at one point. I have no idea when it changed. In the early 80's, it was a seedy dump but the college guys at State used to go there for midnight "movies" and laugh, spray beer and give standing ovations to any woman who was brave enough to step into the theater. The films mirrored the place. They were horrible, spliced and the sound was off. At the time, it wasn't so much a porno movie night as it was some sort of funny college right of passage.

OMG, I loved Swensen's. I really wish there was a place like that around today. It was such a nice place to go as a family! I still remember that place in vivid detail and how excited my brothers and I were to go there.
And I went to a 6th grade center at Ligon (only it was called Crosby)!

I went to Crosby Garfield as well(1976). My parents did not complain about me being bussed downtown either. It was fun to us North Hills kids. So many parents today have no class and set a poor example for their kids. Kids in Wake County have been shifted, bussed etc since 1971. My dad probably did not like it, but he was not going to be a blowhard and tinkle in the wind.

Funny, mine didn't complain either. It was a great experience and the bus was no big deal. I talked with friends and we worked on homework together.

Same here. Like I said in another thread. I just took a nap, and stared out the window at all the nice scenery NC has to offer.

Crazy Zack's! Believe it or not, I still have t-shirt from there. For those who don't know where it was, it was on Hillsborough St. near Meredith. The location is now a street. Gorman St. @ Hillsborough was its exact location. There used to be nickel night for draft beer. You could get smashed for 25cents. :-) One room was beach music and the other room was funk. It was a great time if you were able to keep your shoes from sticking to the floor from all the spilled beer! I think they went under because, when the drinking age for beer was raised to 21 over 3 years, they lost business and were caught serving to underage college students.
Edward's Grocery suffered the same fate as college students were no longer able to drink beer at 18.
Do you remember the very first Darryl's on Hillsborough St.? Not the one on the corner, but the one in the middle of the block before they expanded?
As for the town of Millbrook, who remembers the world's smallest post office? I really wish I had taken photos of all these places before they were lost. Also in Millbrook was "Heart's Delight" ice cream. Millbrook lost all it's charm and its life when Millbrook Rd was plowed through when Atlantic Ave. was constructed.
As for the Velvet Cloak, I had my senior prom dinner there at the Charter Room.
This is fun reminiscing!

[quote=I'minformed2;2931685]Mike isn't on the showgram anymore? He was just this passed August! It was Bob, Mike, and some girl named Kristen. Who I believed replaced Amy who replaced Madison; who HATED all of them. My wife used to scoff every time I'd listen to the showgram when we were in the car together or if I mentioned hearing something on it. She said it was a stupid and immature program made for rednecks. But it really was hilarious lol. I don't live in the area anymore and I'm not "native" but lived there for almost 13 years so I actually "out native" probably 90% of the people who post on this forum anyways.quote]
The Mike that's on the Showgram now is not the same one that started the show. When the show started it was called the Bob and Mike Show. When Mike left Madison took his spot. It's sad and a little embarassing that I know that.
