I remember when Apex was a small town, and it had just a couple of traffic lights. Does anyone remember having to watch Channel 7 from Washington or 6 from Wilmington for NBC in the Raleigh area, because WPTF was so weak?
Does anyone remember those Raleigh IceCaps (hockey)?

I remember getting Channel 7 from "Little Washington" if the wind was blowing just right. Channel 5,11, and a snowy 4 was the only game in town.
The IceCaps games were fun in Dorton. The Carolina Cougars of the ABA played in Dorton as well.
Anybody remember the Putt-Putt and the Batt-Batt on Western Blvd. beside WRAL Studios at the location of Mission Vallley?

I remember trying to get both channels to come in...esp. when Barney's Army was boring!
I remember the ads in TV Guide for the new independent channel coming - Channel 22.

let's go back in TV Land
Does anyone remember Happy the Toy Soldier on Channel 11?( he used to also be the weatherman) and Capt. Five on channel 5? We've already discussed Jim Thornton, the barefoot boy from Broadslab? Homer Briarhopper? Speck Rhodes on the Porter Wagonner?

You bet I do I used to play sick(or try too anyway ) in grade school so I could watch Happy the Toy Soldier. The theme song was also that of The Nutcracker. I was a big fan of the Captain 5 Show too. I was on the show a few times as well.
Championship Wrestling on Saturday night? It was pre-recorded in the Channel 5 studios as well.

Do you remember when the Michael Jackson "Thriller" video was played for the first time at Jillians? Cool place back then. Skate Ranch on HWY 70 was cool as well but I didn't really enjoy the wood floors! OUCH! It was smaller than the other rinks, but convenient. WOW Raleigh has changed!

Really? Because I remember the family that ran Skate Town ... the Bests ... both the dad and the son were named Ben. I also remember that the younger Ben Best refused to play "50 Ways to Leave Your Lover" for me, though they took requests, because he said it wasn't a "nice" song. (I was about 10 and I'm not sure I understood the song, I just liked the alliteration.) They were pretty religious folks.
So it's hard for me to envision the Dead Kennedys there. Maybe at Skate Ranch, or did the Bests sell Skate Town?
