Remember when........
There were THREE topless bars on Hillsborough St.? The White Castle on Hillsborough? Across the street from Snoopy's? (Now a chiropractor's office.) Cary was "out there in Cary somewhere." ? True story: I came here in '81, and ran the Color Tile store on Capital Blvd. My first day in the store, an older man (about 55 or so, which is now my age!) came in wearing overalls, flannel shirt, brogan high top work shoes, and a Coker Hybrid ball cap. I wanted to show my sales staff how we had made the BIG sales in Atlanta, so I gave him the big-city sales pitch, which, after about 40 minutes or so, he politely turned down. Disappointed, I then began just chatting so he'd remember me as friendly at least. His big objection to buying that day had been that he was from out of town, and he and his wife didn't get into town too much, and he wanted her to see the new flooring before he bought it. I asked where he was from, and he said, "Cary." My sales staff fell out laughing. I asked where Cary was. They told me. I live in Cary now, and I ain't from out of town anymore. Streamer1212 |

I remember when the first stoplight between Creedmoor (the town) and Raleigh on hwy 50 was at Crabtree Mall.

Going to Darryl's steakhouse on HWY 70 in the middle of nowhere and eating in the jail cell or the elevator.

I worked at that Darryl's for a few weeks. Worst job I ever had. First/Only time I ever quit a job without another one lined up. The satisfaction I got from quitting was enormous.

I guess I will show my age and mention some other really fun places we used to go in the late 70's...the whole Cameron Village Underground with The Pier, Cafe Deja Vu, The Bears Den, also The Switch somewhere off Wake Forest Road (kinda rough but had great fun bands). Also all the fun parties at NCSU like Zoo Day pr THE Day where they would have live bands and a big outdoor party. Even before those, Hillsborough Square (before my time, even!).
Someone else mentioned Roy Rogers..we'd go there about 2:30 a.m. after hitting these places and order a Double R Bar Burger, Branded--otherwise you got it nearly raw. Anyone remember Fass Brothers Fish House at Mission Valley or Poole's Pie Shop on Peace Street? This has been a fun thread. |

^I remember that. There was also a "Roadhouse" restaraunt up the hill on Crapital where the Kangaroo gas station is now. The restaurant had burned down.

You remember a time when the city limits ended at Spring Forest Rd traveling north on Capital Blvd. There was nothing north of that. Now you have Triangle Town Center, multitude of car dealerships and Wake Field.
The only 2 restaurants that I hated to see close was Darryl’s on Hillsborough St and Vincent's Pizza on Capital went it caught fire and never reopened. |

I remember there being some family style seafood restaurant in Mission Valley that my parents used to take us to all the time as kids. Was that the Fass Brother's place? Was it something else after that?
I very vaguely remember the Switch! |

The Switch stayed open into the 90s. My "big hair band" buddy used to go see Kix play their all the time.

There also used to be Creekside Seafood on Creekside Drive next to Crabtree Creek near Wake Forest Rd. It as an old school Calabash Style fried seafood house with unlimited hushpuppies. YUM!
