On Sunday's we used to go 'downtown' to the Capitol and buy peanut to feed the pigeons. I was a little girl then...long, long ago
We used to walk there when I was a kid and feed the pigeons.
Other things I remember.. The Ambassador Theater and The State theater.
Anyone else ever watch The Uncle Paul show and do the marching thing in front the tv? lol I did
How about The Tryon Movie theater? I remember seeing the original Gone in 60 seconds when I was a teen and they had the car sitting out front, so cool!
The Forest Drive in
Used to be a movie theater next to Crabtree mall. I remember seeing The Godfather and Rollerball there.
So many great things used to be in Raleigh that people miss today and they don't even know they miss it.
Does anyone remember the small (concrete) neighborhood pool right as you exited Downtown Blvd. (heading south) onto Wade Ave or Glenwood Ave towards Cameron Village?
I remember it as a child. There was also a small swim club on Louisburg Road heading into Raleigh. From Spring Forest and Perry Creek Rd all the way to Capital Blvd. used to be completely in the country. I remember that pool (on the right) and the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses Church. Also a Biker Bar called "something Crossroads."
I think you mean Hayes Barton pool. There is housing there now. Big waste getting rid of the pool! I learned to swim there.
Do you remember Silver Lake? Had the big slides with cans attached to pour water on them to help you slide faster. It was the best thing ever in the 60's and 70's.
Is that the same man who sold news papers on the mall. Ok long time ago!
