I just had to post that fresh strawberry pancakes at the Original Pancake House in Indianapolis are "Market Rate" on the menu. Now strawberries join lobster at the bar.
We all need to learn to eat produce based on when it is grown locally.
This is from ShopRite in Greenwich Twp NJ where I used to shop. They have online shopping and the prices are what they would be in the store, you only pay fee at end of order. So $1 difference on the red peppers.
Also did a fast check on soda pop and Pepsi products in ShopRite in NJ are about 1.59.. I dunno but I thought I saw it at 1.34 in Super Walmart??? Correct me if wrong. And I get my kids this yummy Tropicana refrig. juice for 1.34 at Walmart (1/2 gallon) and Kroger had it at 1.50 from time to time but ShopRite was at 2.29!!!! YIKES!
A&W Rootbeer another soda we buy often is usually 1.25 at Super Walmart and most other stores are the same around here but NJ had it at 1.39!!!! Thats a lot of moula for soda.
So no.. I don't think NC has any price issues.. I think its doing fine. We have to remember when we left the north 2 yrs ago things were different. Gas was still somewhat affordable. Things change and just because it seems high here, doesn't mean its not high there.
And yes Harris Teeter does seem to be high in price but if you clip coupons which they double up to $1.00 you will see how you can save big if you watch sales. I NEVER settle and pay too much.. I will check other stores before I make my decisions and it pays.
Just had to come to the defense of NC. I moved here 2 yrs ago from NJ and I will never regret it!
I am not really sure what this thread is about anymore. But lets keep it local please. This is the NC forums and when members come to look for info on NC it gets confusing when reading posts pertaining to other areas.
Thanks.
Red peppers grilled then layered on a grilled portebella with feta and a sweet onion yummmm...
Found an interesting fact about the reason red peppers are so high in price ..they are the aftermath of green peppers (or mature green peppers if you will) when left longer on the vine and they don't always turn red before rotting....hence, the higher price as they are an oddity of sorts...
Presently, I have 4 green pepper plants which I was told wouild be more apt to turn red in my garden and they are showing no signs of red...yet.....
Kinda OT: Yes, produce has skyrocketed and that's the main reason I am heading to the
"pick ytour own" farms this summer and freezing things....so far, straw, blue and rasp - berries have been done up...will be tasty in the winter!!! And if anyone has the time to make freezer strawberry or raspberry jam (so easy it's ridiculous), you have the syrup of the Gods on hand...no store-bought comes close to the flavor!!!!!

We have bell pepper plants in our garden that are up to my chin. I am 5'6". TALL plants, grow very well, haven't been attacked by pests like all of our other veggies. In fact, one completely broke off at the ground during a storm and it regenerated and is now starting to produce peppers too. Grow some, it is easy! We have a ton of bell peppers out there right now in all stages of maturity: red, yellow, green. And so much more flavorful than the ones in the stores.
It's getting rediculous! A small container of blueberries (so small that I doubt you could make a dozen muffins out of it) was 6.99 at Target! And they weren't even organic!
HT just had the pint containers of blueberries 4 for $6 according to my spouse
