Everyone else said it all! I was just going to add that a lot of people work remotely here with companies elsewhere. I currently have no coworkers in North Carolina at all as far as I know. Good luck with the move!
Edited to add: I make pretty much the same at this company as I did with a local company.
I don't see why that would be frustrating. People work remotely all over the place, it's just the way things are moving.
It's much less common to work remote in NY, which may be the cause for concern here. When we moved here I couldn't believe how many people work remote. And as noted, most people don't know or care where the company is based. This area is much more technology driven than where the OP is coming from.

Thank you!

My husband has been working remotely for 8 years but I typically see this arrangement in IT type jobs (which his is).
There's a lot of good-natured and snide comments on this forum about transplants. I figured with people around that didn't necessarily like the influx into the area, that I'd get an honest answer. When this guy said that, it was one more thing that I hadn't considered about how we might be received once we get there.
However, our experience in person while vacationing there has been nothing but positive.
Sounds like your acquaintance might be one of those "haha....I got the best of both worlds; bigger house with lower taxes but NY salary..eat it suckers" types (yes, they do exist...yes there is a stigma). But that's more of an outlier than the norm.
People work remotely for companies based all over the place. My buddy works remotely for a Cisco group that is based out of San Francisco (ironic considering the RTP office is about 10 minutes form his house) and has lived in NC most of his life.
If your husband plans to showboat and be like "haha look how savvy I am with my move to a cheaper locale with the same high-salary I got in NYC"....and expresses this to people...yeah, it will rub folks the wrong way. Doesn't sound like that would be the case though so I wouldn't worry too much about it.
I moved here over five years ago and kept my job (working remotely). My company is based in DC. Many people have asked who I work for but I've never run into anyone who cared or asked about the $.
Most people are more jealous that I get to work from home and can do laundry while on a conference call. (or, the opposite - some say they could never work from home because of the distractions). Money has never come into the conversation.
Take those snide comments with a grain of salt, cause about 90% of them come from one person
The benefit of being on this forum for so long is being able to pick out the posts to value and the posts to ignore based on username. I'm pretty thankful to all the people who shared their thoughts and information. Even the grumpy ones teach me something every once in a while.

Nah, not showboaters. Just thankful to be making our lives better, enjoying everything Raleigh has to offer. It's getting hard for me to think about anything else.

I'm pretty happy about my husband working from home because of that reason too - we don't spend our entire weekends doing chores. But I don't know if I could be truly happy working from home, I think I'd miss the social opportunities especially when we first move.
