New Population projections for both Triangle MSAs.
Raleigh-Cary:
January 1, 2017: 1,318,902
January 1, 2018: 1,349,875 (+30,973 & +2.3%)
Durham-Chapel Hill
January 1, 2017: 564,014
January 1, 2018: 571,792 (+7,778 & +1.4%)
Not the CSA estimates, rather the two MSAs combined are now over 1,882,916 and projected to be 1,921,667 by next New Year's Day for a combined growth rate of 2.058%
At current growth rates, Raleigh-Cary will be over 1.4 million before the January, 2020. Durham-Chapel Hill will nearing 590,000 by the same time, and the two MSAs combined will cross 2 million.
Just so that people know the difference: the CSA is composed of the Raleigh MSA (Wake, Johnston, Franklin), the Durham-CH MSA (Durham, Orange, Chatham, Person), and 4 micro SAs (Harnett, Lee, Granville, Vance). At least, I think that's right. Corrections welcome.

Those are the 4 other counties. Combined, these counties currently add an additional ~300,000 people, putting the CSA near 2.2 million today and over 2.2 million by next January. Of the 4, most of their combined growth comes from Harnett County. Lee and Granville have grown slowly and Vance is actually losing population. Here's a map that identifies the MSAs, the 4 Micropolitan areas and the CSA. I have no idea why this map says both Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill and Raleigh-Durham-Cary. It seems like an error to me by the person editing the map when the MSA and CSA designations changed after the 2000 Census. https://www2.census.gov/geo/maps/eco...M200US450M.pdf

The legend suggests that it's simply showing the difference between the 2007 CSA delineation, which was called Raleigh-Durham-Cary and excluded Harnett, Lee, Vance, and Granville counties, and the 2012 CSA delineation, which added those counties and is called Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill.
Maybe that will be enough to bring IKEA to Cary Towne Center...
The Hampton Roads CSA (Norfolk) is roughly about the same size as the Triangle (well somewhat smaller), and they're getting an IKEA before us, The Triangle also has a higher median income. Doesn't make sense

Triangle residents need to quit driving to the Charlotte IKEA.

I see. Thanks for clarifying. That said, if this is supposed to be the new map, it would be clearer if they just kept it to the current designations of the MSAs & CSA. The map also calls out Raleigh and Raleigh-Cary for the eastern MSA. If going by color coding is consistent with what you state above, then Raleigh-Cary is also the old MSA designation and is now replaced by just Raleigh MSA.
